A loop on a waterproof backpack does not, by itself, establish a safe carrying load. External gear changes the load path, balance and movement of the bag. For a custom backpack program, tell Weierken what the attachment is intended to hold, how it connects and where it will sit. Review the loop, its reinforcement and the finished bag together.
Define the attached item and its movement
Provide the item’s dimensions, mass and attachment hardware. Explain whether it is flexible clothing, a rigid accessory or an awkwardly shaped tool. Include the normal carrying position and any likely swinging or snagging. A small item can still create an unsuitable lever or abrasion point.
State whether the loop is intended only for light accessory organization. Do not use an ordinary bag loop for personal fall protection, towing or overhead lifting. Those are different applications requiring a separately engineered and verified system.
Trace the load into the bag body
Show the proposed contact points on a drawing or marked photo. Ask how the load reaches the reinforcement and surrounding panel, and whether it pulls on a closure or protected storage area. On a waterproof construction, the method of adding an attachment also belongs in the protection review.
A neat external patch is not evidence of a tested assembly. Intertek’s bag-testing overview identifies strap fastenings and their attachment to the body as relevant strength-assessment areas. The project still needs its own sample, method and acceptance criteria.
Check interference while the bag is loaded
Fit the actual accessory and load the main compartment. Open and close the bag, adjust the straps and set it down. Check whether the attachment obstructs a pocket, pulls across a roll-top or rubs against the user. Review both partly filled and normal-use arrangements if they are relevant.
Include the way a user removes the accessory. A system that holds gear during carrying but requires unloading the whole backpack at every stop may not meet the intended use.
Record the approved limits and layout
Keep a drawing of the approved attachment positions and identify the accessory used for evaluation. Any load statement must match an agreed verification scope; do not transfer a result from a different strap, patch or material version.
If a logo panel or pocket later moves into the same area, recheck the layout. A revision that appears cosmetic can alter access or the local reinforcement. The buyer should receive a clear record of what was actually approved.

Buyer FAQs
Can a visible loop be treated as load-rated?
No. A load claim needs a defined assembly and suitable verification, not only a product photograph.
Will adding a loop preserve the same waterproof performance?
That must be reviewed for the changed construction. An attachment method can affect the surrounding panel and protection system.
