TPU is not a complete bag fabric specification. For a custom bag project, the purchasing record also needs to describe the fabric construction, finish and approved reference. This allows the buyer and factory to identify the intended material without relying on a short catalogue label.
Separate the fabric from the finished product
Record the base textile and coating information supplied for the proposed material. If a catalogue uses a description such as 600D TPU, ask which additional details are needed for purchasing and quality control. That label alone does not establish bag weight, tear performance, waterproof rating or environmental credentials.
Approve appearance on a physical reference
Review color, surface texture, gloss and the appearance of both sides where relevant. Keep the reference identified by supplier, material code and approval date. Photographs are useful for communication, but a screen can display the same material differently under different settings.
Review the material with the construction
Ask whether the proposed fabric is suitable for the intended seam process, printing method and folding areas. Request a sample of the actual combination when a detail is important. A fabric swatch cannot show how a finished corner, printed panel or attachment will behave.
- Material code and supplier reference.
- Base fabric and coating description.
- Agreed color and finish reference.
- Relevant construction and decoration trials.
- Required documentation and the product or material it covers.
- Change approval contact and revision date.
Make substitutions visible
If the proposed material becomes unavailable, compare the replacement against the approved record before accepting it. Ask what differs and whether the sample or testing needs to be repeated. Do not assume two materials are interchangeable because both are described as TPU-coated.
For a new enquiry, provide the use case and the features that matter most: appearance, packed weight, construction, cleaning routine or another defined requirement. The specification can then be developed around the bag rather than around a material buzzword.
