A total order quantity does not tell a factory how many units of each custom bag it must produce. A program with several models, colors and logo versions can involve very different requirements from one uniform item. A clear quantity breakdown makes an MOQ discussion more useful.
Separate the total from each variation
List the proposed quantity by model, size and color. Identify which components are shared and which are unique. If different logos or packing arrangements apply, show those variations as well. Do not assume that a combined order automatically satisfies every material or production minimum.
Ask what drives the quoted minimum
The factory may need to review material purchasing, custom components and production setup for the proposed design. Ask which part of the specification affects the applicable minimum and whether a change would alter it. This is more actionable than comparing isolated MOQ numbers from unrelated products.
Prepare alternatives without assuming acceptance
- One initial color instead of several small color lots.
- A shared base material across compatible models.
- An existing product platform with defined modifications.
- A staged program, subject to a separate commercial agreement.
- A different quantity mix for the same total demand.
These are discussion options, not guaranteed ways to obtain a lower minimum. Each proposal needs review for the actual material, construction and supplier requirements. Record the accepted arrangement in the quotation rather than treating a preliminary conversation as a confirmed offer.
Keep sampling and production separate
Ask for the sample scope, cost and timing separately from the bulk production quotation. A sample being available does not establish a production minimum or a delivery commitment. Likewise, the timing of a previous order should not be assumed for a new material or configuration.
For the final enquiry, include target quantities, destination market, intended timing and the decisions that are still flexible. The resulting quotation should identify the model and variations it covers, along with its applicable conditions.
