A cooler bag can have enough nominal capacity yet tip over, sag around a lunch tray or become awkward to clean. The base panel affects the loaded shape, carrying behavior and access to the liner. Buyers should define these three requirements before specifying a thicker board.
Start with the actual load and support surface
Record the heaviest intended load, its footprint and how the bag rests during use. A broad food tray distributes weight differently from a few tall bottles. A flat counter, vehicle floor and uneven campsite surface also create different conditions. Send a loading photo or a simple layout with your RFQ so Weierken can review the base as part of the complete bag construction.
State whether the bag must stand upright while partly filled. Do not assume that a panel which supports a fully loaded bag will prevent an empty soft-sided bag from folding. The side construction, seams and handle locations also influence shape.
Compare fixed and removable constructions
Swipe the comparison table horizontally on a small screen.
| Question | Fixed panel | Removable panel |
|---|---|---|
| Cleaning access | Review the liner and edge construction together. | Check whether the pocket and panel can be cleaned and dried separately. |
| Daily handling | No separate panel for the operator to reinstall. | Requires a clear installation direction and retention method. |
| Packing | Check how the finished bag folds. | Confirm whether removing the panel changes the carton arrangement. |
This is a design comparison, not a claim that one construction is always better. A removable panel may simplify access but introduce an extra component, edge wear or an incorrect reinstallation risk. Ask for a sample showing the complete pocket, closure and panel rather than approving the panel material alone.
Use a sample acceptance sheet
For an illustrative review, load the buyer’s specified containers and cooling packs, close the bag and lift it using the intended handles. Record any base bowing, contact between hard edges and liner, tipping during placement and interference when removing the load. Agree the test load, repetitions and acceptance limits before testing. These steps do not establish a rated carrying capacity by themselves.
Photograph the empty bag, normal load and maximum specified load from the same position. Mark the revision number and distinguish an approved change from an observation. If the base affects usable height or folding, update the dimensional drawing and packing specification as well.
Buyer FAQs
Does a stiffer base guarantee better insulation?
No. Support and thermal performance are different requirements. Review the insulation arrangement and test the complete packed bag under the agreed conditions.
Can we change the base without changing the outer dimensions?
Possibly, but panel thickness, edge construction and liner fit can change usable space. Confirm the revised internal load and carrying behavior with a sample.
